March is Brain Injury Awareness Month

While we hope you never have an employee with a traumatic brain injury due to a work related accident, we are prepared to assist if you ever do.

Our Medical Director, Chrisanne Gordon MD, is a ‘thought leader’ on traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and has focused a large portion of her career increasing awareness of the impact brain injuries have on all aspects of life. She founded the non-profit Resurrecting Lives Foundation, which advocates for appropriate diagnosis and treatment of TBIs, especially for returning military. Most recently, she co-authored the book, “Turn the Lights On!” outlining her personal experiences with brain injuries and best practice response for treating TBIs.

Dr. Gordon’s extensive TBI knowledge along with her expertise in physical medicine and rehabilitation has a direct impact on CareWorks’ management of catastrophic claims. Dr. Gordon found that 75% of CareWorks catastrophic claims she reviewed involved a brain injury. Her expertise is essential as our clinical staff develops plans to ensure the best outcomes possible for these most difficult cases.

At CareWorks, we are continually working towards the best possible outcome for every injured worker. Effective case management and medical director involvement are key to reduce lost time, promote healthy and timely recoveries and help control costs. While most injuries are not catastrophic, we are ready to handle even the most difficult cases should they occur.

*Each March, the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) leads an awareness campaign to educate about their mission “To advance awareness, research, treatment, and education and to improve the quality of life for all people affected by brain injury.”
